পুরাবৃত্তের এতৎসময়ে রোমের উৎপত্তি। ঐ নগর খ্রীষ্টীয়ান শকের পূর্ব্বে ৭৫৪ সালে বসতি হয় এবং ঐ সালঅবধি ৫০৯ সালপর্য্যন্ত এক শ্রেণি রাজারা রাজ্য করেন। তদনন্তর সাধারণ প্রভুত্রত্বরূপে রাজ্যের নিয়ম স্থাপন হয়। কিন্তু তৎপরে রোমাণেরা পৃথিবীর মধ্যে অদ্বিতীয়রূপ পরাক্রমশালী হইয়া যে সকল দেশের বিবরণ পূর্ব্বে লেখা গেল তদ্দেশ আপনারদের অধিকারের মধ্যে আনিলেন অতএব রোম নগরের উৎপত্তি ও বৃদ্ধির বিশেষ বিবরণ পুরাবৃত্তের আগামি কালের প্রস্তাবে লিখিত হইবে।

To this period also belongs the rise of Rome, which was governed by a line of kings, from its foundation B. C. 754 to 509, when a republic was established. But as the Romans soon after became the greatest power in the universe, and embraced in its wide dominion all the countries of which we have treated, we shall reserve to the next epoch a more particular account of its origin and growth.
