নিধন হইয়া যান। যাহা হউক, বুদ্ধি বিদ্যার জন্ত সকলে তাহার সম্মান ও সমাদর করিত। জনসনের মাতাও বুদ্ধিমতী ছিলেন। জনসন বাল্যাবধি শারীরিক ও মানসিক উভয়বিধ রোগে আক্রান্ত হন । শারীরিক রোগে তাহার একটি চক্ষু একবারে অকৰ্ম্মণ্য হইয়া যায়। র্তাহার পিতার স্বাভাবিক যে উদ্বেগ ও চিন্তারোগ ছিল, তাহারও তিনি উত্তরাধিকারী হন। এইরূপ কিম্বদন্তী আছে যে, শারীরিক দুৰ্ব্বলতা প্রযুক্ত তিনি পঠদ্দশায় বিদ্যালয়ের অন্যান্য ছাত্রদিগের স্থায় শ্রমসাধ্য ক্রীড়া কৌতুকে প্রবৃত্ত হইতে পারিতেন না। ওলিবর-নামী এক বিধবার নিকট র্তাহার প্রথম শিক্ষা হয়। লিচ ফিল্ডে ঐ বিধবার এক বিদ্যালয় ছিল । তিনি সৰ্ব্বদা কহিতেন, জনসনের মত বুদ্ধিমান ছাত্র বিদ্যালয়ে কখন আইসে নাই ।” এইবার ইংরাজী ‘রাসেলাস হইতে একটু উদ্ধার করিতেছি – “From the mountains, on every side, rivulets descended, that filled all the valley with verdure and fertility, and formed a lake in the middle, inhabited by fish of every species, and frequented by every fowl, whom nature has taught to dip the wing in water.
