*२२ চাকার ইতিহাস । | *म श्रृं: আমাদের বিবেচনায় কার্যাকরী জ্ঞানের অভাব এবং ব্যয়বাছলাত্তাই তাহাদিগের উদ্যমব্যর্থ হইবার কারণ (১) । । Dr. Roxburgh vía Flora Indica &r* fftaftea ;— “The Dacca Cottom is a variety of gossypium herbaceum, and differs from other varieties of this species in the following respects — 1st.—In the plant being more erect with fewer branches and the lobes of the leaves more pointed. 2nd–In the whole plant being tinged of a reddish colour, even the petiols and nerves of the leaves, and being less pubescent. 3rd. In having the peduncles which support the flowers longer and the exterior margins of the petals tinged with red. 4th. –In the staple of the Cottom being much longer, much finer, and much softer. It was from the produce of this particular variety of Cottom that the finest Dacca Muslins were made. “The record of Mr. Price's misfortune may, at all events, be taken as proving that some thing more than jealous perseverence and untiring energy is needed to command success where he so signally failed”—Ibid ( ; ) it is not to be taken for granted that this experiment of cultivating American cotton at Dacca was “so well conducted as to be conclusive”.
