R. Temple. Esq., C. S, Member. Rev. J. Sale, to represent the interests of the rayats in the committee, and the missionaries. W. F. Furgusson Esq. nominated by the Indigo Planters' Association to represent the interest of that body and Babu Chandra Mohan Chatterjee nominated by the British lindian Association to represent the Landholders, interest.
- “Babu Joychand Pal Choudhury-a great Zemindar, who is or was a great indigo planter (having had thirty two concerns in his Estate and shares in 9 other concerns ) is asked "If the rayats have for the last twenty years been unwilling to sow indigo, how then have they gone on cuitivating the plant up to the present time' To this he answers "by numerous acts of oppression and violence, by locking them up in godowns, burning their houses, beating them
etc' The whole of this gentleman's evidence is very instructive as proceeding from a great Zemindar and practical native indigo planter. This diluted into becoming official language, I find to be the conclusion of the commi ssion and it is certainly the inevetable deduction from the whole body of evidence."
