তেমনি গলেরা তাহা তুচ্ছ করিলেন। অতএব ঐ উকীলের উকীলী অপক্ষপাতিত্ব ধর্ম্ম প্রতিপালন না করিয়া ক্লুজিয়ম লােকেরদের সঙ্গে মিলিয়া গলেরদের প্রতি যুদ্ধ করিলেন। তাহাতে গলেরদের অধ্যক্ষ ব্রেণস এই বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা ব্যাপারবিষয়ক অভিযোগকরণার্থ রোম নগরে দূত প্রেরণ করিলেন কিন্তু রোমানেরা অপরাধি উকীলেরদিগকে শাসন না করিয়া বরং তাহারদিগকে অধিক সম্ভ্রান্ত পদে নিযুক্ত করিলেন। ইহা শুনিয়া গলেরা একে বারে জাজ্বল্যমান হইয়া ক্লুজিয়ম নগর বেষ্টন রহিত করিয়া তাবৎ সৈন্যসমেত রোম নগরের প্রতি ধাবমান হইলেন। রোমানেরদের যে সাহস ও বুদ্ধি নিয়ত দৃষ্ট হইত তাহা এক্ষণে ভ্রংশন বোধ হইল যেহেতুক তাঁহারা কোন ডিক্টেটর নিযুক্ত না করিয়া গলেরদের নিবারণার্থ অত্যন্ত অপটু যুব এক ব্যক্তির অধীনে সৈন্য প্রেরণ করিলেন। তাহাতে নগরহইতে সাড়ে পাঁচ ক্রোশ অন্তরিত
