বন্ধুবান্ধবকে হত করিলেন এবং তাঁহারদের সম্পত্তি জব্দ করিলেন। সিল্লা এই সম্বাদ শ্রবণে পঁয়ত্রিশ হাজার সৈন্য লইয়া রোম নগরের প্রতি ধাবমান হইলেন। রোম নগরের প্রতিকুলে যে রোমীয় সৈন্যেরা প্রথমবার যুদ্ধযাত্রা করেন সে এই। সিল্লা অনায়াসে নগর আয়ত্ত করিলেন এবং লোকেরদের পরাক্রম খর্ব্বকরণার্থ কতিপয় ব্যবস্থা স্থাপন করিলেন এবং মারিয়সের পক্ষীয়েরদিগকে হত করিয়া মারিয়সকে নগর বহিষ্কৃত করাইয়া এই হুকুম করিলেন যে ব্যক্তি ইহার মস্তকচ্ছেদন করিয়া আনিতে পারিবে সে পুরস্কার পাইবে। এতদ্রূপে নগরের মধ্যে স্বীয় দলস্থ লোকেরদের প্রভুত্ব সংস্থাপন করিয়া তিনি সিন্না ও অকটাবিয়সকে কনসলী পদে নিযুক্ত করিলেন এবং মিথ্রিডটিসের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করণার্থ পূর্ব্ব দেশে যাত্রা করিলেন। রােম নগরীয় লোকেরদের স্বেচ্ছামতে কর্ম্ম কারকেরদের নিযুক্ত করণের যে ক্ষমতা ছিল তাহা ইহার পরঅবধি রহিত হইল।
