Ve • বংশ পরিচয় occasion, and to have such a remarkable proof of the fact that you are working harmoniously together and that the only real rivalry existing between you is the rivalry as to which of you will do the most for the interest of the children under your care, I was led to feel a particularly deep interest in the school at Nawabganj because it furnished a notable example of what might be done by private efforts in the matter of education. It has been one of my endeavours during the period of viceroyalty to encourage self-help among the people of this country to the utmost of my power in various directions (applause). I believe there are few directions in which that great principle can be applied with greater advantage than with respect to public education, and it was therefore particularly pleasant to me to be able to give my countenance to a school established by private enterprise for the primary and also for the higher education of a rural district like this. That, that school has succeeded so well affords me great gratification, a gratification which is enhanced by the belief that its success has not interfered with the progress of the Barrackpore school, and that there is plenty of good works to be done by both of them.
