মোগল যুগে স্ত্রীশিক্ষা
বিকাশে,—মোগল সম্রাট্গণের হারেমে তাহাও বিরল নহে,—জহাঙ্গীর-মহিষী নূর্জাহান তাহার উজ্জ্বল দৃষ্টান্তস্থল।
মানুষী লিখিয়াছেন, ‘বাদ্শাহী হারেমে শাহ্জাদী ও অন্যান্য মোগল-পুরবাসিনীবৃন্দকে সঙ্গীত শিক্ষা দিবার জন্য বৃত্তিভোগিনী শিক্ষয়িত্রী নিযুক্ত থাকিতেন।’ তাঁহারা রাজবংশের সহিত সম্পর্কিত ছিলেন না; কেবল গুণের পুরষ্কার-স্বরূপ বাদশাহ্বৃন্দ তাঁহাদিগকে শিক্ষাকার্য্যে নিযুক্ত করিতেন। মানুষী আরও লিখিয়াছেন, ‘মোগল-সম্রাট্গনের নিকট যে-সকল হস্তলিখিত দৈনন্দিন সংবাদলিপি (‘ওয়াকিয়া’) আসিত, তাহা পাঠ করিবার ভার মহলের বেতনভোগিনী মহিলাদের উপর ন্যস্ত ছিল; রাত্রি নয় ঘটিকার সময় তাঁহারা সম্রাট্কে সংবাদ লিপি পাঠ করিয়া শুনাইতেন।’[১]
