[ కన( ) know, now exists in the district (that on the temples at Kanhaynagar which will be described in the next chapter) Raja, Sitaram Ray, applies to his city the epithet ruchtra, ruchi, hara, “depriving of beauty" that which is beautiful, meaning simply that beautiful things compared with it no longer had any beauty. I think it is possible if not likely, that Jasohara has a similar meaning and application, and is intended merely to express the idea “supremely glorious.” 4. The city thus founded is not the Jessore of the present day, but will be found on the map not far from Kaligunj police station in the 24-Pergunnahs district. 5. Vikramaditya hada son whose name was Pratapaditya and who was endowed with all the virtues under the sun; and this Pratapditya succeeded him in the possession of the principality of Jessore.
