Das Sen, the Zarnindar and savant of Berhampore is no more. It is simply impossible to express in adequate terms the deep sorrow we have felt at the news of his untimely death. The poignancy of the grief is enhanced by the fact that he died in a strange place—a village named Boalia in Nuddea where he had gone to see his Zamindari affairs and not a single member of his family was with him at the time of his death. The deceased was only fortytwo years. old, but he had long before established a literary reputation for himself wich is not only Indian but European also. He was in constant correspondence with the savants of Europe. He has left a library the like of which is not to be seen in whole Bengal. As an author his works always shewed vast eruditiom and deep researches, His mame will be remembered as long as the Bengali language ceases not to exist. In his rivate life, he was a dutiful son, an affectionate father, a oving hisband, and a warm , friend. As a Zamindar, his treatment with the ryots was the most generous. In short, in Dr Ram Das Sen Bengal has lost a most worthy son, , one who though belonging to young Bengal, had none of his wices, but had all the sterling merits of the old Hindu and who was as unostentatious and silent a worker as a true patriet ổught to be."–Amrita Bazar Patrika, September, 1887.
