সম্পাদকীয় కళ: ১৮• • সনের গোড়া হইতে পঞ্চানন শ্ৰীবামপুরে ব্যাপটিষ্ট মিশনরীদের ছাপাখানায় কাজ করিতে আরম্ভ করে। কেরী তখন সংস্কৃত ব্যাকরণ মুদ্রণের জঙ্গ উপযুক্ত দেবনাগরী অক্ষরের কথা ভাবিতেছিলেন । এমন সময় পঞ্চাননকে পাইয়। তিনি নিশ্চিন্তু হইলেন । তিনি অবিলম্বে পঞ্চাননকে নাগরী অক্ষরের একটি সাট রচনায় নিযুক্ত করিলেন । দেবনাগবে বহু যুক্তাক্ষর থাকায় সাত শত ছেনির প্রয়োজন হইয়াছিল। ১৮৮৩ সনের গোড়ায় এই কাজ প্রায় অৰ্দ্ধেকটা অগ্রসর হয় । কাজটি সত্বর সম্পন্ন করিবার জন্য মনোহর নামে এক জন কৰ্ম্মপট যুবককে পঞ্চাননের সহকারীরূপে নিযুক্ত করা হয় । এই মনোহর পঞ্চাননের জামাত ৭ এই কাজে নিযুক্ত থাকা কালে পঞ্চানন বাংলা অক্ষরের আরও একটি সাট তৈয়ার করে। নিউ টেষ্টামেন্টের প্রথম সংস্করণ যে-অক্ষরে মুদ্রিত হয়, এই নূতন অক্ষর তাহ অপেক্ষ আকারে ছোট এবং দেখিতে আরও স্বন্দর। ১৮৯৩ সনে এই নুতন অক্ষরে নিউ টেষ্টামেন্টের দ্বিতীয় সংস্করণ ছাপা হইতে আরম্ভ হয় । - * স্ত্রীরামপুর মিশন পঞ্চানন কৰ্ম্মকারকে পাইয়। শ্রীরামপুরে একটি টাইপ-ঢালাইয়ের কারখানা প্রতিষ্ঠা করিয়াছিলেন । শ্রীরামপুরের ছাপাখানায় প্রবেশ করিবার বৎসর-তিনেক ( ১৮০৩-০৪ ) পরে পঞ্চাননের মৃত্যু হয় । পঞ্চানন ও তাহার শিয্যবর্গ সম্বন্ধে স্ত্রীরামপুর মিশন ১৮০৭ সনে একখানি পত্রে যাহা লিখিয়াছিলেন, নিম্নে তাহার কিঞ্চিৎ উদ্ধত করিতেছি – “Soon after our settling at Serampore the providence of God brought to us the very artist who had wrought with Wilkins in that work, and in a great measure imbibed his ideas.
