M« Procedure and Evidence sa- do Criminal Law 哆影龄 do সরকারী চাকুরী বাংলা দেশের শ্রেষ্ঠ সাহিত্য-প্রতিভার দীর্ঘ (৩৩ বংসর ) কৰ্মজীবনের ইতিহাস কম চিত্তাকর্ষক নয় ; তাহা ঘনাবহুল আঘাতসংঘাতের ইতিহাস। কিন্তু দুধের বিষয়, এই ইতিহাসও স্বীভাবে লিখিত হয় নাই; এলোমেলো টুকরা টুকরা ঘটনার আভাস এর ওর-তার স্থতিকথায় যাহা পাওয়া যায়, তাহাতে আমাদের সাধ মিটে না। আমরা শুধু দেখিতে পাই,তেত্রিশ বৎসরের পুরাতন কর্মচারীকে গাটে রায় বাহাদুর ও সি. আই. ই উপাধি দিয়া সম্মান করিয়াছেন এবং তারই উৰ্দ্ধতন ইউরোপীয় কৰ্ম্মচারী দি ই. বাকৃল্যাও র্তাহার সংক্ষিপ্ত জীবনী রচনা করিতে বসিয়া লিখিয়াছেন— - By 1885 he had risen to the first grade in the Subordinate Executive (now the Provincial) Service, and for some time acted as an Assistant Secretary to the Government of Bengal. He rendered good service in a number of districts and also acted as Personal Assistant to the Commissioners of the Rajshahi and Burdwan Divisions. In June 1887, he was Secretary to a Commission appointed by Government for the revison of the salaries of ministeral officers. While in charge of the Khulna Sub-division (now a district) he helped very largely in suppressing river dacoities and establishing peace and order in the eastern canals-Bengal under the Lieutenant-Governors, pp. 1078-79,
