** তাবাদ পর্শ जबृकच्नि মেদিনীপুরে বেলীর বাংল-শিক্ষক মাত্রাস কলেজ ত্যাগ করিবার অব্যবহিত পরে হামাচরণ মেদিনীপুরের কলেক্টর এইচ. ভি. বেলীর বাংলা-শিক্ষকের পদ গ্রহণ করিয়াছিলেন। এই প্রসঙ্গে রামতনু লাহিড়ী ২৫ মে ১৮৪২ তারিখে তীয় বন্ধু মেদিনীপুরের ডেপুটী কলেক্টর গোবিন্দচন্দ্র বসাককে যে পত্র লিখিয়াছিলেন, তাহা নিয়ে উদ্ভূত হইল ঃ– My dear Gobind, This is favoured by a particular friend of mine, Babu Shyama Churn Sirkar who has proceeded to Midnapore as Bengalee Instructor to Mr. Bayley. As he has no friend or acquaintance there, I have been requested to give him an introductory note to you, and I do so with great pleasure. I can say without breach of truth that he is not an ordinary person in the country. He has a knowledge of Greek, Latii!, Arabic, Persiam, Hindustanee and of course of English and Bengalee, and I have reason to think that his acquaintance with these languages is not merely superficial. You may have read in the Englishman somo time ago, remarks highly commendatory of his Latin composition, in the notice that that journal took of the Examination of St. Xavier's College. His Latin Essay was the hest of those produced. He had no friends or parent's care to superintend over his education. When he came to town he brought with him some knowledge of Persian and knew almost nobody. He had since acquired all that I have above stated and the admiration and regard of not a few among those whose good opinion it is worth having.
