ফোট উইলিয়ম কলেজে পণ্ডিতী \ది কোন বাংলা গদ্যগ্রন্থ নাই। পাঠ্য পুস্তকের অভাব কলেজকর্তৃপক্ষও অমুভব করিয়াছিলেন ; এই কারণে র্তাহারা দেশীয় পণ্ডিতদিগকে গদ্যগ্রন্থ-রচনায় উৎসাহ দিবার জন্য পুরস্কার সোধণা করেন । ইহা ছাড়া এই সকল রচনা প্রকাশের আমুকূল্যাৰ্থ কলেজ-কাউন্সিল পুস্তকের অনেকগুলি খও কলেজের জন্য ক্রয় করিতেন। বলা বাহুল্য, তখন পুস্তক মুদ্রণ ব্যয়সাধ্য ব্যাপার ছিল । মৃত্যুঞ্জয় বিদ্যালঙ্কার কলেজের পাঠ্য পুস্তকরূপে বত্রিশ সিংহাসন রচনা করিয়া পারিশ্রমিক স্বরূপ কলেজ-কর্তৃপক্ষের নিকট হইতে দুই শত টাকা পাইয়াছিলেন । ইহা ছাড়া কলেজের জন্য এক শত খণ্ড বত্রিশ সিংহাসন' ছয় শত টাকা মূল্যে ক্রয় করা হইয়াছিল ।
