হতভাগ্য টেরানু আত্মবিক্রয় করিয়া যে অগাধ ধনরাশি সঞ্চয় করিয়াছিল, তাহাও তাহার ভোগে আসিল না;— সে আত্মহত্যা করিয়া আত্মাপরাধের ঘৃণিত-কলঙ্ক মোচন করিয়া গিয়াছে![১]

“———গঙ্গা-তীরে, নীরে,
জলিল সমরানল ধরি ভীম সাজ;
ভয়ে ভীতা ভাগীরথীী বহিলেক ধীরে।
নবম দিবস পরে নভঃ আলো ক’রে,
উঠিল ব্রিটিশ-ধ্বজ চন্দননগরে!”
এইরূপে,
“ফরাসির সম যোদ্ধা নাহি ভূভারতে”
বঙ্গদেশে একবাক্যে বলিত সকলে।
সে ফরাসি-যশো-রবি সেই দিন হ’তে
ক্লাইবের “কটাক্ষেতে” গেছে আস্তাচলে!
