1Ꮙ only in large towns and as their number is disproportionately smal!, we have to depend entirely on the graduates of the Vernacular Medical Schools. These, while at school, have to devote much time to other subjects, and have no susicient ficla for clinical teaching in the hospitals attached to their schools, and no good books to guide them. A really good book which they can consult wlhen cngaged in practice is a desideraturn in the hands of every semale practitioner, as it would matcrially help her sex suffering from internal diseases. . The author of this book, a graduate of the Campbell Medical School, was the best student of his time in my class. I was struck with the zeal he displayed to learn the subject of Gynaecology practically. After leaving school he attended a large number of cases with me. And as he is a good Bengallce scholar, I thought he could well translate into Bengali a good English work on the subject. He readily took up the idea and has sound ways and means to carry it out. I le has selected Macnaughton Jones's book as his guide. I promised to look through his manuscripts, which were written so well that they required very few corrections at my hands. The public, however, will judge its merits best. DOYAL CiIANDRA SIIOM E.
