MY DEAR SIR,
When you asked me for permission to hold a meeting at the Town Hall to express sympathy with the sufferers in the cause of Swadeshi, I did not clearly understand the object of your meeting. I now learn that you intend to express sympathy with persons who have been convicted for offences committed in connection with the boycott agitation. I certainly do not consider that the Town Hall is the proper place for a demonstration of this character and I regret that I must revoke my sanction to the use of the Town Hall for this purpose.
