EveNTS OF HIS LIFE. 135 Nattore 5th November 1888. My dear Sir, I read in this week's Calcutta Gazette of your appointment as a Judge of the High Court. Allow me to offer you my most sincere congratulations on your accession to the bench. It is remarked in some of the native papers that the appointment has caused great heart-burning to the Mahomedans. It is singularly unfortunate that attempts should be made, by those who ought to know better, to turn any thing and overy thing into a race question. I may however assure you, if indeed such assurance bencoded, that whatever others may think, those at least among the Mahomcdans who have the privilege of knowing you personally, cannot but feel that a happier choice could not have been made.
