SR May I request the favour of your submitting this letter for the consideration of tl e Syndicate. It will be in the recollection of all, that at the Convocation for conferring degrees, the Hon'ble the Vice-Chancellor drew attention to the necessity of encouraging the study of Indian Vernaculars. He is reported to have said, “I also deem it not merely desirable, but necessary that we should encourage the study of those Indian Vernaculars that have a literature, by making them compulsory subjects of our examinations in conjunction with their kindred classical language.” Sharing the view thus set forth, and believing that the time has come when the University should take action in the matter, I beg to submit for the Consideration of the Syndicate the following propositions:
