স্বস্যর গুরুদাস ও ইডেন হিন্দু হোষ্টেল কবি সন্মিলনী। মতামহোপাধ্যায় শ্রীযুক্ত হরপ্রসাদ শাস্ত্রী সি, আই, ই মহাশয় তখন প্রেসিডেন্সি কলেজের অধ্যাপক। ১৮৯৮ খৃঃ অব্দে তাহার উৎসাহে তাহার কতিপয় ছাত্র ইডেন হিন্দু হোষ্টেল কবিসম্মিলনী স্থাপন করেন, শাস্ত্রী মহাশয়ের অনুরোধে জষ্টিস গুরুদাস বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় ঐ সম্মিলনীর পেট্ৰণ বা পৃষ্ঠপোষকরূপে পারিতোষিকের জন্য অর্থ সাহায্য করিতে স্বীকৃত হন। ইডেন হিন্দু হোষ্টেলের অধিবাসী ছাত্রগণ চতুৰ্দশপদী কবিতা (সনেট) লিখিতেন, সেগুলি স্তর গুরুদাস ও শাস্ত্রী মহাশয় পরীক্ষা করিতেন, শ্রেষ্ঠ লেখকগণকে পারিতোষিক প্রদান করা হইত। পুরস্কারপ্রাপ্ত কবিতাগুলি মুদ্রিত হইয়া পুস্তকাকারে বিতরিত হইত ও কলিকাতা ইউনিভার্দিটী ইনষ্টিটিউট হলে প্রকাশ্য Regarding his connection with the Eden Hindu Hostel the following notes from the Calcutta University Magazine are reproduced. i hii ili dlı LLLLSLLLLLSLLLLLSLS LLLLL L LLLLL GGSMSMM L LLLLLS "A Social gathering of the boarders of the Hindu Hostel and their friends was held in the Hostes premises on Saturday the 3rd march 1894. The Hon. Justice G. D. Banerjee the popular Visitor of the Hostel presided on the occas sion. There was a varied programme. Rev. Mr. F. W. Douglass sang a sweet Irish song. Babu Jadu Nath Sarkar M.A. read a paper on our üniversities and Babu Bankim Chandra Mukerjee M.A. showed some interesting experis ments in Chemistry. Then came the presidential address by the Hon. Justice Banerjee. It is impossible to give a purport of this admirable address in a limited space. It was indeed one of the most interesting lectures fulf of sound moral and practical advice that we have ever heard.
