একটা স্ক্যান ফাইল থেকে নির্ঘণ্ট পাতা বানানোর সময় লক্ষ্য রাখবেন পাতার নাম যেন ফাইলের নামের সাথে অভিন্ন হয়, শুধুমাত্র নামস্থান সূচকটি আলাদা হবে। যেমন, আপলোডের পর কোনও স্ক্যান ফাইলের নাম যদি হয় "File:আমার বই.djvu" তাহলে নির্ঘণ্ট পাতার নাম ''অবশ্যই হতে হবে'' "নির্ঘণ্ট:আমার বই.djvu"। লক্ষ্য করুন ''শুধুমাত্র'' নামের উপসর্গটুকু "File" থেকে "নির্ঘণ্ট"-তে বদলেছে। অন্য কিছু বদলালেই নির্ঘণ্ট পাতা ঠিকঠাক কাজ করতে পারবে না।
When creating an index page from a scan file, the name of the page must exactly match the name of the file except for the namespace prefix. For example, if the name of a scan, following upload, is "File:My book.djvu" then the index page ''must be'' "Index:My book.djvu". Note that ''only'' the prefix has changed (from "File" to "Index"). Any other changes will prevent the index page from working correctly.
 
আপনার ব্রাউজারে জাভাস্ক্রিপ্ট চালু করা থাকলে নতুন নির্ঘণ্ট পাতাকে সাধারণ উইকি পাতার মত একখানি টেক্সট ফিল্ড হিসেবে না দেখিয়ে অনেকগুলো আলাদা আলাদা এডিট বাক্স হিসেবে দেখাবে (ছবি দেখুন)। এই বাক্সগুলো এক একটা প্যারামিটার; এদের পরিচয় নিচে দেওয়া হল। অধিকাংশ বাক্স ফাঁকা দেখাবে, তবে কয়েকটা স্বয়ংক্রিয়ভাবে আগে থেকে ভরা থাকবে। এই প্যারামিটারউলোর কোনও কোনওটা পরিলেখন ও মুদ্রণ সংশোধনের কাজে লাগে; বাকিগুলোয় অধি-উপাত্ত ও ন্যাভিগেশন লিংক থাকে।
If you have javascript enabled on your browser, the new index page will not look like a normal wiki page. It will have a series of text fields instead of a single edit box (see image). Each text field is a paramter that are described below; most will be blank but a few are pre-filled automatically. Some of these parameters alter or support the process of transcription and proofreading; other parameters contain metadata and navigation links.

This is based on the index template. If you create or edit the page with javascript disabled, you will see a normal wiki edit box containing the index template. This can be completed and used in the same way as any other [[Help:Templates|template]].
