Under any circumstances, however, you will be pleased to communicate the instructions contained in the Revenue Circular to the Superintendent of Marine, with a request that he will lay it down as a Rule to bc obsen ved un future, by the Commanders of Sea-going Government Vessels and Steamers, that on occasions of receiving charge of Specie remittanoes they sh ill invariably weigh each Box of Treasure on its receipt by them, either on board ship or at the Treasury of the remitting Officer, and preferably at the latter, and enter the weight thereof at the time of receipt in the receipt to be given by them to the remitting Officer.
