The morning being a little hot, and more so to.us om account of a long walk, a quantity of pure Gazeepore-rosewater was sprinkled on out bodies, and the punkha pulled, which in a few mintites satisfactorily cooled us. Hitherto we had remained ignorant of the nature of the business for which we were called, nor did the Baboo tell us any thing till he saw us fairly refreshed, when he produced a letter written to him by a Saheb, requesting him to inform the writer the terms on which he could let one of his Indigo'factories. This letterwe were required to explain, and if possible to translate in the Bengalee language. The paper was rather long, we read it over once, and of course understood the whole, though in many places there were some technical phrases. Young Bengal gave the letter into my hands, and requested me to explain it, which I declined, for he was my superior in learning, and there fore the fittest person between us two for the purpose.
