Dear Sir, - The work on the essence of the Hindu Re. ligion, which you did us the hopor to peruse, is indeed very good in its own way, and is well calculated to convey an idea of the Hindu Religion to those who are unlearned in its tenets ; , our countrymen, whoever the most reputed scholar excepted, manifesta degree of ignorance in the principles of their own Religion, which it is not only desirable to remove, but necessarily imposes a duty on those who have dis-crimation to counteract the evil; if therefore the present publication be at all instrumental to shed alight among them, on this head.
