294 all his kingdom, causing a herald to proclaim it in the different cities—(Ezra i. 2.) “Thus saith Cyrus, king of Persia: the Lord God "of heaven hath given me all th: kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. (3) Who is there among you of all this people *. His God be with in.ta let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the Lord God of Israel, (He is the God ) which is in Jerusalem. This proclamatiou gave great joy to the Jews. Ten of the principal elders of Judah and Benjami, with the priests and Levites, (assistants in sacred offices,) and many of the people, began to make preparations for their return. zerubbabel, grandson of king Jehoiachin and pringe of the Jews, was their leader, and Jeshua was high-priest.
