প্রতাপান্বিত নানা গুণোপেত কিন্তু বিবেচনাহীন এক যুব ব্যক্তি আথেন্সীয়েরদিগকে অতিদৃঢ়রূপে আপনার বাধ্য করিলেন তাহাতে অতিঅমঙ্গল দর্শিল যেহেতুক যুদ্ধ হইলেই স্বয়ং অতিপ্রতাপান্বিত হইবেন এই প্রত্যাশায় স্বীয় নগরস্থেরদিগকে পুনর্ব্বার যুদ্ধে প্রবর্ত্ত করাইলেন। অতিঅবিবেচনাতে শিশিলি উপদ্বীপ জয়করণ কল্পনাতে তিনি আথেন্সীয়েরদিগকে লওয়াইলেন। এই দূরস্থ অথচ নিরর্থক যুদ্ধ যাত্রায় রাজ্যের তাবৎ সামর্থ্য যােজিত হইল। কিঞ্চিদনন্তর দেবালয় অপবিত্রকরণাপরাধে তিনি দেশবহিস্কৃত হইয়া স্পার্টারদের সঙ্গে মিলিলেন এবং স্পার্টারা শিশিলিনিবাসি সিরাকিউসেরদের সাহায্যার্থ এক দল মহাসৈন্য প্রেরণ করেন তদ্দ্বারা আথেন্সীয়েরদের সৈন্য ও যুদ্ধ জাহাজ একেবারে নিপাত হয়।
