কেরা ভগ্নোদ্যম হইল। ইহার পূর্ব্বে ইতর লােকেরদের সপক্ষহওয়াপ্রযুক্ত কুলীনের কাসিয়স ও মেলিয়সকে যে হত করিয়াছিলেন ইহা তাঁহারা বিস্মৃত ছিলেন না। এতদ্রূপে তাঁহারা দেখিলেন যে যত লোক তাঁহারদের অনুকূল হয় তাহারা সকলই একাদিক্রমে বলপূর্ব্বক হত হইতেছে এবং তাহারদের দুঃখের যে কখন শেষ হইবে এমত সম্ভাবনাও থাকিল না। গলেরদের আক্রমণেতে এবং রোমনগরের লুঠ হওয়াতে তাহারদের কর্জের অত্যন্ত বৃদ্ধি হইয়াছিল এবং উত্তমর্ণেরদের কর্ত্তৃক পূর্ব্বাপেক্ষা তাহারা অধিক ক্লেশ পাইতে লাগিল। কিন্তু যে সময়ে বোধ হইল যে কুলীনেরা। এইক্ষণে দেশের তাবৎ প্রভুত্ব চিরকালের নিমিত্ত প্রাপ্ত হইয়াছেন এবং ইতর লোক দাস্যাবস্থায় পতিত হইয়া উদ্ধারের বিষয়ে ভরসা শূন্য হইয়াছে এমত সময়ে দুই জনের সাহস ও স্থিরপ্রতিজ্ঞতাতে লোকের নত উদ্যম পুনর্ব্বার উত্থিত হইল এবং
