বঙ্কিম-কণিকা memoration has always taken the form of Sraddha or Tarpan and in either case it has observed, a broadI might say—too broad, distinction between the Rishis and the Pitris. In the former case, our commemoration of the Rishis whose names have to be recited in the daily prayer has really secured for us the Brahminic conservation of their teachings. And though at the present moment certain circumstances have roused in some minds a spirit of restlessness and a desire to break off from the Words of Indian Rishis, I have no doubt but that Indian good sense will in the course of the next decade ought to discover that the blessings of conservation are really inestimable. I am however just now concerned to show that the commemoration of the Pitrsis has become a purely domestic observance because of the very nature of the Brahmanic Religion which is called Sanatan i.e. Eternal and Ever-lasting. The Rishis have enjoined the highest reverance to be paid to the Pitris, and those who have kept worshipping their Pitris, have found the few recorded Rishis to be sufficient for all purposes. Meantime however the West has been growing, and there they have followed a different path : a path 8兹
