- Extract from a letter from the Acting magistrate of Burdwan to the magistrate of Hooghly, dated Calcutta 6th May 1838.
“ In my recent capture of soi disant Rajah of Burqwan, with his armed followers, some hundreds of swords were discovered in his boats. Tho Sepoys, however, of Captain Little's detachment considering them fair plunder, appropriated to themselves as many as they could carry away. Their camp followers did the same, and my burkundazes and chowkeedars caught the infection, so that there are only now 86 swords forthcoming, of which upwards of 50 were received from the sepoys. * * As Captain Little is today at Hooghly may I request you will join with him, if necessary, in making the necessary search in his camp, and do your best to get possession for me the plundered swords. It is of the greatest imponee to get them, as they form such strong evidence in the case,” . . - -
