The fact is, the author is a powersul writer, and he can make even his common place dialogues interesting and instructive. This is because, he has thought, imagination and powers of observation. Add to this his descriptions which are always natural and are sometimes sublime. Thus the death scene of Bonalata is one of the finest we have secn in any language...... In the end let us observe that the author deserves a foremost plalce in the ranks of our novelists. Bankim Chandra's language is possibly better but our author is more rratural. Bankim Chandra wrote to create effect but our author seems not aware what cfcct his wi iting would picquce. We are unlucky in our povel' writers. Bankim Chandra showed the way of copying 'European masters and most of those who have succeeded him, have followed the same path.
