२१२ বঙ্গের বাহিরে বাঙ্গালী । ১৮৫৭ অব্দে সিপাহীবিদ্রোহের অগ্নি এখানেও প্ৰবেশ করিয়াছিল। মালাগাড়ের ওয়ালীদাদ খাঁ এই সময় বুলন্দাসহর অধিকার করিয়া বসে এবং চতুর্দিকে অত্যাচার করে। অনুপসহরে এ সময় শান্তিপুর-নিবাসী বাবু চিন্তামণি বসু। চাকরী করিতেন । আগ্রার স্বনামখ্যাত বাবু যমুনাদাস বিশ্বাস তাহার, শ্যালক ছিলেন। তিনি সেই সময় চাকরীর চেষ্টায় এখানে অবস্থিতি করিতেছিলেন। তঁহার বয়স তখন ১৪ বৎসর মাত্র । কিন্তু সেই ভয়ানক দুদিনে যখন লোকে গৃহের বাহির হইতে পারিত না, তখন তিনি নিৰ্ভয়ে যাদৃচ্ছি ভ্ৰমণ করিয়া বেড়াইতেন । তিনি তঁাহার ভগ্নীপতিকে অতি সঙ্কটাপন্ন অবস্থায় থাকিতে, দেখিয়া তিনি বিদ্রোহীদিগকে বিতাড়িত করিতে মনস্থ করেন এবং শুদ্ধ সৎসাহস ও তীক্ষুবুদ্ধিবলে তাহাদিগকে অল্পকালের মধ্যে অনুপসহর ছাড়িয়া যাইতে বাধ্য। করেন। এখানে তিনি কোন চাকরীর সুবিধা করিতে না পারিয়া পরে অনুপসহর হইতে আগ্ৰা ফিরিয়া যান । -rk- 4eddrodd i I*kl members of the Bargujar clan, the most important was the family that founded the Anupshahr Estate. Shortly after British occupation, Raja Sher Sing of Anupshahr it was rewarded for his defence of the town against Dunde Khan, but subsequently sold the whole of his property to Raja Kishan Chand, known as the Lala Babu of Paikpara in Calcutta, amounting to 72 villages. x - . The Lala Babu turned Faquir in 1815, and 12 villages were sold for arrears of revenue, the remaining 60 villages being held by his wife, the Rani Katyani. The Estate was for long under the Court of Wards, and remained so after the death of the Rani on behalf of her heirs, It was released in 1880, and then Raja Puran Chandra Singh became lambardar and managed the whole Estate till 1889. Meanwhile, the members of the family quarrelled and applied for partition. This was completed in 1894, when Raja Indar Chandar Singh received 32 villages out of the 54 in this District, while the other members of the family gere given the remaining villages as well as those in Aligarh and Muttra. Indar Chandar Singh died shortly after. Before his death, he had placed his affairs in the hands of the Administrator-General of Bengal, in whose care it still remains.
