পাঞ্জাব । 8SS চরণ বাবু যে সকল স্মারকলিপি রাখিয়া গিয়াছেন, তাহাতে বোধ হয় তিনি ভারত বর্ষের অবস্থা ও অভাব সম্বন্ধে একখানি গ্ৰন্থ লিখিতে মনস্থ করিয়াছিলেন। কিন্তু অল্প বয়সে মৃত্যু হওয়ায় তাহা কাৰ্য্যে পরিণত হয় নাই। ১৮৬৭ অব্দে ৪০ বৎসর বয়সে তাহার মৃত্যু হয়। অমায়িক ব্যবহার এবং সৰ্ব্বসাধারণের হিতকর কার্ঘ্যের জন্য তিনি পঞ্জাববাসিগণের নিকট যথেষ্ট আদর ও সন্মান লাভ করিয়াছিলেন। র্তাহার এই অকালমৃত্যুতে সকলেই শোকসন্তপ্ত হইয়াছিলেন। এই উপলক্ষে ডাক্তার লাইটনার ও সারা লেপেল গ্রিফিন কর্তৃক প্রকাশিত পঞ্জাবের তৎকালীন খ্যাতনামা পত্রিকা ইণ্ডিয়ান পাবলিক ও পিনিয়নে * শোকপ্ৰকাশক যে প্ৰবন্ধ বাহির হয়, তাহাতে লিখিত আছে "We deeply regret to hear of the death of Babu Shama Churn Bose, one of the most enlightened and respectable members of the excellent Bengali colony which we have in our midst at Lahore. The deceased gentleman took considerable interest in all matters affecting the welfare of his adoptive country and together with other Bengalis threw himself actively into all movements which sometime ago reflected credit on this province. He was a Vedantist by persuation, a most amiable man and an accomplished English scholar. As head clerk of the Educational Department much of the credit assigned to its chief deservedly belongs to the well-known native gentleman whose loss, we are sure, is sincerely, felt in the community to which he belonged.' গোলোকনাথের খ্যাতি প্ৰতিপত্তি সুপ্ৰতিষ্ঠিত হইবার পর পাঞ্জাবে ব্ৰাহ্মধৰ্ম্মের বীজ রোপিত হয়। ১৮৬০ খৃষ্টাব্দে বাবু সারদাপ্রসাদ ভট্টাচাৰ্য্য ব্ৰাহ্মধৰ্ম্ম-প্রচারক হইয়া দিল্লী, অম্বালা, অমৃতসর প্রভৃতি স্থান ভ্ৰমণ করেন এবং পরে ফিরোজপুরে আসিয়া গভর্ণমেণ্টের চাকরী গ্ৰহণ করিয়া ১৮৬২ সালে লাহোরে বদলী হন। এই বৎসরে তঁহার বাটীতে “লাহোর ব্ৰাহ্মসমাজ” প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। সারদা বাবু তাহার আচাৰ্য্য হন। পাশ্চাত্যশিক্ষা ও সভ্যতার প্রতি পঞ্চনদবাসীর যে ঘোর বিদ্বেষ ও আন্তরিক ঘূণা ছিল, রেভারেণ্ড গােলোকনাথ হইতে তাহার উচ্ছেদ । Indian Public Opinion, Dated 16th August, 1867.
