Վ)(t օ বাঙ্গলার ইতিহাস । 회 || ঐতিহাসিক বলিয়াছেন, ( ) তুচ্ছ কয়েক লক্ষ টাকার আকাঙ্ক্ষায় ইংরেজবণিকের অর্থলোলুপ কৰ্ম্মচারিদল ধৰ্ম্ম সাক্ষী করিয়া যাহার সহিত চিরসৌহার্দ প্রতিষ্ঠিত হইয়াছিল, তাহাকে অকারণে অকুলে ভাসাইয়া, নুতন বিপ্লবে সমগ্র দেশে পুনরায় অশান্তি আনয়ন করিয়া, ইংরেজ জাতির নামে দুরপনের কলঙ্কসমারোপ করিয়াছে। আত্মস্বার্থের প্রবল স্রোতে তাহদের কৰ্ত্তব্যজ্ঞান অতলে বিসজ্জিত হইয়াছিল’ ! নবাব মীরজাফর খার নৈতিক চরিত্র-সম্বন্ধে সমালোচনা নিম্প্রয়োজন। অমানুষিক নিষ্ঠুরতা প্রভৃতি কলঙ্ক তাহার শক্রপক্ষের আরোপিত হইলেও কোনও নিরপেক্ষ লেখকে তাহার কার্য্যকলাপ সম্পূর্ণ সমর্থন করবেন না। ীেবনে সাহসিকতা প্রভৃতি যোদ্ধৃগণস্থলভ দক্ষতার অভাব না থাকিলেও বিচক্ষণতা ও কাৰ্য্যকুশলতার জন্ত তাহার কোন মুখ্যাতি ছিল না। তিনি নিতান্ত দুৰ্ব্বলচিত্ত ছিলেন। নবাব সিরাজুদ্দৌলার ব্যবহার সহিষ্ণুতার সীমা অতিক্রম করলেই মীরজাফর ষড়যন্ত্রে লিপ্ত হন, পূর্বেই প্রদর্শিত হইয়াছে ; কিন্তু যেরূপ ঘৃণিত উপায়ে তিনি স্বকীয় অভিপ্রায় স্থসিদ্ধ করিয়াছেন, তাহ। তাৎকালিক মুসলমান রাজপুরুষোচিত হইলেও সৰ্ব্বকালেই নিন্দনীয় । জামাত মার্কাসেম আবার কুসীদ সহ এই গুরু-প্রদৃষ্ট মূলধনের সদ্ব্যবহার করিয়াছেন। তথাপি মীরজাফরের বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা প্রসঙ্গে অনেকে যে কঠোর সমালোচনা করেন, তাহ কিয়ৎপরিমাণে একদেশদর্শিতাদোষে দুষ্ট, ইহা স্বীকার্য্য। ( > ) See, Thornton pp. 413–14. “The iniquity of this transaction finds few apologists even among those who have taken upon themselves to dress and enamel oriental deeds for European view.
