Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not ; charity vaunteth not itself, is not pusfed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth ; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, edureth all things.—I. XIII. 3-7. যদিও আমি আমার সকল সম্পত্তি সুখিদিগের আহারের জন্য দান করি, এবং যদিও আমার শবারকে দগ্ধ হইতে দি, তথাপি প্রীতি না থাকিলে উহাতে আমার কোন লাভ নাই। প্রীতি দীঘ কাল সহ্য করে এবং দয়ালু ; প্রীতি পবদ্বেষ করে না, প্রীতি আত্মশ্লাঘা করে না, এবং স্ফীত হয় না। ইহা অনুচিত ব্যবহার করে না, স্বাৰ্থ অন্বেষণ করে না, সহজে ক্রদ্ধ হয় না ; অনিষ্ট চিন্তা করে না, অধৰ্ম্মে আনন্দিত হয় না, কিন্তু সত্যেতেই আনন্দিত হয ; তাবৎ বহন করে, তাবৎ বিশ্বাস করে, তাবৎ আশা করে এবং ত{বং সহ্য করে ।
