বোম্বাই । নিৰ্ম্মাণ করাইয়াছেন । ইউনিভারসিটি লাইব্রেরীটি বোম্বাইবাসীর গৌরবের বিষয়। লাইব্রেরী গৃহে যে একখানা ক্ষুদ্র খোদিত ফলকলিপি আছে তাহাতে এই স্তম্ভ ও লাইব্রেরী গৃহের সমগ্ৰ ইতিহাস গ্রথিত আছে। আমরা পাঠক বর্গের জ্ঞাতার্থ এ স্থানে তাহার অনুলিপি প্ৰদান করিলাম—- 'The University library and Raja Bai Clock Tower was erected from designs by Sir Gilbert Scott, R.A., F.S.A., F. R.I.A., and sanctioned by the Government of Bombay on the 16th January, 869. The work was commenced on the 1st of March, 1869. His Excellency the Right Honorable Sir Seymour Vesey Fitzgerald, G.C.S.I., Chancellor ; Rev. John Wilson, F.R.S., Vice-Chancellor. This work was carried out under the immediate orders of lieutenant Colonel J. A. Fuller, R. E., from March 1869 to May 187 I : T. H. E. Hart, M1. Inst, C. E., from May 187 I to November 1872 ; Lieutenant Colonel J. A. Fuller, R. E., from December 1872 to November 1878 ; Rao Bahadur Makund Ramchandra being Assistant Engineer in charge. The entire cost of the building, together with the Clock and Chines, was contributed by Premchand Raichand, Esq , J. P. Lieutenant-General Sir Michael Kennedy, Kt. C. s. II., R. E., Secretary to Government, Public Works Department." একটা গৌরবের বিষয় এই যে এইরূপ একটা সৰ্বাঙ্গ সুন্দর গৌরব স্তম্ভ নিৰ্ম্মাণে আমাদের দেশীয় একজন নিপুণ শিল্পীর হস্ত চিহ্ন বিদ্যমান থাকায় আমরা বিশেষ গৌরব ও আনন্দের সহিত ইহার শিল্প নৈপুণ্য ও সৌন্দৰ্য্য উপভোগ করিতে পারি। রায় বাহাদুর মুকুন্দ রামচন্দ্র এসিষ্টাণ্ট ইঞ্জিনিয়ার ইহার তত্ত্বাবধানে নিযুক্ত ছিলেন । গ্যালারির উৰ্দ্ধভাগে ব্ৰাহ্মণ, রাজপুত, মহারাষ্ট্ৰী, গুজরাতি, কছি, পাসী প্রভৃতি বোম্বাইবাসী বিভিন্ন শ্ৰেণীস্থ জাতিজ্ঞাপক মূৰ্ত্তি সমূহ ইহার দ্বারা নিৰ্ম্মিত হইয়াছে। আমরা এই স্তম্ভ সম্বন্ধে quisté বি ইষ্টউইক (Edward B.
