তিনি নিষেধ করিয়া পদব্রজেই অগ্রসর হইলেন। মঞ্চের সোপানের নিকট আসিয়া উপস্থিত হইলে, র্তাহার হস্তদ্বয় একখানি রুমাল দিয়া আবদ্ধ করা হইল। পরে তাহার মুখ আচ্ছাদন করার আবশ্যক হইলে, তিনি আমাদিগকে তাহা করিতে নিষেধ করিলেন। আমি একজন রাহ্মণ সিপাহীকে আদেশ করিলে, মহারাজ র্তাহার একটি ভৃত্যকে আদেশ দিলেন। ভূতাটি তখন র্তাহার পদতলে লুষ্ঠিত হইয়া কাদিতেছিল। মহারাজ ঋজুভাবে দণ্ডায়মান হইয়া মঞ্চোপরি উঠিলেন। আমি তাহার প্রশান্ত বদনে কোনরূপ ভাব-বিকৃতি দেখিলাম না। পরে আমি নিজে স্থির থাকিতে না পারিয়া, স্বীয় শিবিকামধ্যে পলায়ন করিলাম। শিবিকায় বসিতে বসিতে মঞ্চাপসারণের শব্দ শুনিলাম। কিছুক্ষণ পরে শাস্ত হইলে, দেখিলাম, মহারাজের হস্তদ্বয় যেরূপভাবে প্রথমে বদ্ধ ছিল, সেইরূপ ভাবেই অবস্থিত আছে এবং তাহার বদনমণ্ডলে কোনরূপ বিকৃতির চিহ্ন নাই। ফলতঃ এই শোচনীয় ব্যাপারে মহারাজ নন্দকুমার যেরূপ শান্তভাব ও দৃঢ়তা দেখাইয়াছিলেন, এরূপ স্থিরচিত্ততার উদাহরণ আমি কখনও শুনি নাই বা পাঠ করি নাই॥৩৮ অবশেষে সেই ব্রাহ্মণত্রয় তাহার মৃতদেহ ভস্মীভূত করিবার জন্য বহন করিয়া লইয়া যায়।”
