The Slave Girl of Agra :-London 1909. রমেশচন্দ্রের মাধবী কঙ্কণ’-এর তৎকৃত ইংরেজী সার সংকলন। রমেশচন্দ্র সবলিখিত ইংরেজী প্রস্তকগুলির মধ্যে চারখানি সম্বন্ধে খুবই উচ্চ ধারণা পোষণ করিতেন। তিনি ১৯০৩ সনে বিলাত হইতে বন্ধবের বিহারীলাল গুপ্ত এবং অগ্রজ যোগেশচন্দ্র দত্ত-কে যে দুইখানি পত্র লিখিয়াছিলেন তাহাতে এই বিষয়টি সপেস্ট হইয়াছে। পুস্তকগুলির সংক্ষিপ্ত নামও ইহাতে আছে। বিহারীলালকে লিখিত পত্ৰখানি মাত্র এখানে দিলাম : “MY DEAR BEHARI, I have not yet seen any one in London, nor have I regularly commenced my work. But I hope to do so as soon as we are settled down in our new house. I am also going to lecture at university college from next week, if I can form a class. The great work before me is the second volume of my “Economic History”—the Victoria Age (1837—1900), and if I can finish that in the present year my life's literary work is done ! I may write novels and political articles after that, but am not likely to engage in any great work again at this age My, “Ancient India,” and "Epics,” and “Economic History” will remain the most important productions of my rather prolific pen during the maturest period of my life, between forty and sixty— Yours affectionately ever, Κοημα, ή * বাঙ্গালা সাহিত্যের অনুশীলন : রমেশচন্দ্র সিবিলিয়ান, ইংরেজী সাহিত্যে ব্যুৎপন্ন। কাজেই তিনি যে ইংরেজী সাহিত্যের চচ্চায় কালক্ষেপ করিবেন তাহাতে আর আশ্চৰ্য্য কি ! তথাপি তিনি কিরাপে বাঙ্গালা সাহিত্যের অনুশীলনে তৎপর হইয়াছিলেন সে সবন্ধে অনেকেরই কৌতুহলী হওয়া সবাভাবিক। রমেশচন্দ্র অন্ততঃ দুইস্থলে তাঁহার বাঙ্গালা সাহিত্যের দিকে আকৃষ্ট হইবার মলে কারণ বিবত করিয়াছেন। বঙ্কিমচন্দ্রের সঙ্গে রমেশচন্দ্রের পরিচয় ঘটে কৈশোরে তাঁহার পিতৃদেবের জীবিতকালেই। বঙ্কিমচন্দ্র “বঙ্গদশন” বাহির করিবার জন্য কলিকাতা ভবানীপরে আগমন করিলে রমেশচন্দ্র পর্বে পরিচয় হেতু প্রায়ই তাঁহার সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করিতেন। তখন একদিন বঙ্কিমচন্দ্র রমেশচন্দ্রকে বাঙ্গালা সাহিত্যে অনুশীলনের জন্য যে কথা বলিয়াছিলেন তাহা তাঁহারই ভাষায় এখানে উদ্ধত করি। রমেশচন্দ্র লিখিয়াছেন : “একদিন
