That, in the year 1817 your memorialist's family erected a Wharf for the benefit of the public with a Portico, situated between Uggurpara and Tittaghur near Barrackpore, at an outlay of Rs. 13,500. 12. That, in the year 1823 your memorialist erected a Wharf at Cossepore, and disbursed for the construction of the Public road from Foundry to Dum Dum in the time of the Marquis of Hastings and Mr. John Adam, Rs. 40,000. 13. That, in the year 1825, under the administration of Lord Amherst, your memorialist disbursed for the benefit of the Hindu female, [the Native Hospital] and Anglo-Indian College, Rs. 1,00,000. 14. That, in the year 1826 your memorialist's two younger brothers disbursed at his suggestion for the erection of Dawk Bungalows to the Upper Provinces for the benefit of travellers Rs. 1,14,000. 15. That, in the year 1832 your memorialist disbursed for the release of debtors in the Jails, etc. of this Presidency and for the transmission of rare and curiouso animals to the Royal Museum and Zoological Society in England, Rs. 10,000. 16. That your memorialist and his family have expended as much more as the above sum of nearly eight lacs of Rupees in other charitable purposes, and that he and they have no pleasure or gratification so great as to expend a portion of their wealth for the service of the Indian Government and” their subjects on all occasions......
