It is with much regret that we have to inform you, that we have been compelled to suspend our payments, it not being in our power to meet several liabilities immediately falling due We have, therefore, deemed it advisable at once to rall our creditors together * them on what is het to te dore We isog to assure you that the necessity for this elep has some upon us most unexpectedly, and arises solely, from the li-npointinent we have experiencel in carrying out the plan ni liųnislation under the arrangements made in January last. We then considered that we might realize rapidly a portion of the large amount due to us by others, but it, this we have entirely , saileri, and in three mouths we have not recoverei more than one per cent of the amount, at which at no late a late as November 1846, the debts due to us were valued by ourselves and partners for a settlement of accounts, 80 unexported has it been to us, that out late partner Maj Henderson iest India only two months ago, in fall belief that the liquidation would go on successfully, and that there i be no necessity for a suspension of payments, Though we have for some years past been engaged in no speculative business, beyond the rarying on of our own Indigo, silk and sugar concerns ( out shipinents having been confined almost entirely to their produce) still our actual losses in , the last two ్ను; ವಿ. upwards of 23 lacks of rupees, arising chiefly depreciation in the value of propoly, Indigo, Silk, Sugar and Saltpetre factories, Union Bank and other Joint Stock Shares; and loses on personal debts from indivi. duals, who within the last year have themselves been ruined, and losses in carrying on the factories.
