শেষ-জীবন ጔሢ গঙ্গাতীরবর্তী উত্তরপাড়া-লাইব্রেরি-ভবনের দ্বিতলে বাস করিয়াছিলেন ; এবারও তিনি জমিদার জয়কৃষ্ণ মুখোপাধ্যায়ের সাদর আহ্বানে তথাক্ষ সপরিবারে গিয়া উঠিলেন (এপ্রিল ১৮৭৩)। মধুসূদনের এই পীড়িতাবস্থায় জয়কৃষ্ণের পৌত্র রাসবিহারী মুখোপাধ্যায় তাহার তত্ত্বাবধান করিতেন ; বন্ধুরাও মাঝে মাঝে দেখিতে আসিতেন। डिनि क्वश्रे উখানশক্তিরহিত হইয়া পড়িলেন। তাহার পত্নী হেনৰিএটাও ৰিক্স জরে শয্যাশায়িনী হইলেন। এই সময়ের এক দিনের ঘটনা গৌরাঙ্গ বলাক তাহার স্মৃতিকথায় বলিয়াছেন, নিম্নে উদ্ধৃত হইল - I shall never forget the heart-randing sight I witnessed on the last occasion on which I visited Modhu in the rooms of the Uttarparah Public Library, where he was staying for a change, He was in bed, gasping under the excruciating effects of his disease, blood oozing from his mouth, his wife lying in high saver on the floor. I care not to die f" রোগের প্রশমন হইল না দেখিয়া মধুসূদন ও তাহার পত্নী পীড়িতাবস্থায় ইটালি বেনিয়াপুকুর রোডের বাটতে ফিরিয়া আসিলেন। এখানে তাহারা দুই তিন সপ্তাহ কাটাইয়াছিলেন মাত্র। অতঃপর মধুত্বদনের শেষ কয়টি দিনের করুণ কাহিনী আমরা মধুপতি-প্রণেতা নগেন্দ্রনাথ সোমের ভাষায় বর্ণনা করিব। “হেনরিয়েটা যদি স্বস্থ থাকিতেন, তাহা হইলে মধুস্থান পত্নীর সেবাশুশ্ৰুষা লাভ করিয়া, ইটলীর বাটতেই তন্ত্রত্যাগ করিতে পারিতেন।
