বিপক্ষ ছিলেন, কেবল আরবি পারসি ও সংস্কৃত শিক্ষার পক্ষ ছিলেন। এই দুই দলে ঘোরতর বিবাদ হইয়াছিল। এই বিবাদ, হিন্দু কলেজ পটলডাঙ্গায় আসিবার পূর্ব্বে আরম্ভ হইয়া ঐ ঘটনার পর দশ বৎসর পর্য্যন্ত চলিয়াছিল। পরে ১৮৩৫ সালের ৭ই মে দিবসীয় গবর্ণমেণ্টের এক অবধারণ দ্বারা স্থিরীকৃত হয় যে, ইংরাজী শিক্ষার প্রতি অধিক মনোযোগ প্রদান করা কর্ত্তব্য। মহামনা লার্ড উইলিয়ম বেণ্টিঙ্ক ঐ সময় গবর্নর ছিলেন। রামমোহন রায় ১৮২৩ সালে উক্ত বিষয়ে গবর্নর জেনেরল লর্ড আমহর্ষ্ট সাহেবকে ইংরাজী শিক্ষার অনুমোদন করিয়া এক পত্র লিখেন, তাহার অবিকল প্রতিলিপি নিম্নে দেওয়া গেল।
