== Announcing new project: Bengali Printed Books from British Library ==
Hi everyone,
I’d like to introduce a new Wikisource project to upload some rare and unique printed Bengali books digitised by the British Library through the ''Two Centuries of Indian Print'' project.
The books are public domain with the majority published in the 19th century and cover a wide range of subjects that provide a unique insight into the social, political and cultural life of South Asia.
These books are already freely available online via the British Library’s online catalogue and can be viewed through the Library’s IIIF viewer.
Transcriptions have also been produced with reasonably good accuracy by training the Transkribus OCR/HTR tool to recognise printed Bangla. We plan on uploading these transcriptions within Wikisource and inviting the community to help improve the accuracy.
The plan is to start very soon by uploading some of the more notable texts from the collection that we hope can relate well to other Wiki pages on the subjects.
We think it will be wonderful to make these important texts available through Wikisource!
